The first time I picked up a make up brush I was fourteen years old, my freshman year of high school. With no sisters and a mother who rarely wore make up I was left in the dark on what I was supposed to do, left to learn on my own. At that time there was no facebook, youtube, or instagram. There was no online tutorial to help me out only images to try and replicate. Mimicking looks I had seen in movies, magazines, or from the other girls I had seen at backyard punk shows, it was all trial and error. Gradually I found my own style, from what I have been told a mix of 80’s punk and 90’s grunge, my goal was to always push myself to show my creativity weather it was a pen to paper or color my hair some insane color I’d rarely see out on the streets. Billie Joe Armstrong once said “punk is about doing things your own way. What it represents for me is ultimate freedom and a sense of individuality”. That always stuck with me, beauty is biased so why not do things that I feel make me beautiful. In reality make up is there to help women feel beautiful even though all of us already are. This blog is not about how to become beautiful, its about how to enhance your beauty, to show your creativity. What I will talk about here is for all of you to take and create your own, I want to spread creativity while showing all of you the tips I’ve learned throughout the years of trial and error and my education at Bellus Academy with MUD. Why cover up your beauty and who you are as an individual, just enhance it and be yourself even if it goes against the norm.
